Playing all matches during the season another LPF priorityĪpart from the VAR system, another priority for the Professional Football League for 2021 is to play all matches in the current busy season. Theoretically, however, the final say is still with the referee on the pitch, although there has been a tendency in some countries - the English Premier League in England, for example - for the video assistant referee to give the final verdict. With the help of video assistant referees, the decisions of the main referee are checked with video images, the aim being to reduce as much as possible human error, which can influence the results of matches. It is not yet clear how much time the Central Referees Commission needs to train the referees. On top of that, there's also the issue of referees.
But the goal-line technology will not be included in the video refereeing package because of too high costs: more than €300,000 per club, money that neither the clubs nor the league have. The implementation of VAR, starting with the 2021-2022 season, is one of the LPF's priorities.
Romanian football league install#
The TV rights holder for Liga 1 has bought the equipment needed to install VAR (video assistant referee) in Romania, but the full use of this system is still to come: there are the machines for video analysis of phases, but not the technology for the goal line.Īccording to Justin Ștefan, the secretary general of the Professional Football League, it is possible that tests will be held even in the current season of the first football echelon.
